SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Blizzard conditions are expected throughout the day as low pressure moves through and moves east throughout the day.
Let’s take a look back at the latest winter weather headlines as of Sunday morning. Winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings are in effect for south, west and northwest Kelloland until 1pm CDT/12pm CDT on Sunday. A blizzard warning will expire as early as 1 p.m./12 p.m. Sunday for areas along the Missouri River and south of Mobridge, 4 p.m. CDT for the Pierre area, 7 p.m. CDT (Aberdeen/Watertown/Sisseton/Miller area), and 1 a.m. Monday (Huron/Brookings/Mitchell/Sioux Falls area). A blizzard warning is in effect for Buffalo Ridge in southwestern Minnesota and northwestern Iowa, west of Lyon and Sioux counties until 7 a.m. Central Time Monday.
While the snow will eventually taper off in the afternoon and evening, blowing and drifting issues will continue throughout the evening and into the night, as shown by our Futurecast product. Travel is strongly advised against during this period.
Although the snow disappears in time for Monday, Sunday night will be cold and Monday will be cold…and that’s not counting the wind chill factor. Again, please be aware of this if you must go out. It’s been a while since we experienced the charm of winter in KELOLAND.
The East River could see some rain and snow showers Tuesday as a fast-moving disturbance moves through the area. Other than that, we’ve stayed pretty quiet as we enter the second half of the work and school week.
Any snowfall before Sunday night won’t last long. Between the sun angle we have in mid-March and the very warm weather en route to this weekend, it will be a matter of how quickly the snow melts, becoming nothing more than a memory. Temperatures will be above average Thursday and Friday…70 and even 80 degrees are not out of the question in the West.
Next weekend, anyway, looks like it’s going to be a quiet start with a few showers.
Here are your extended predictions:
