New Delhi: Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar launched a blistering attack on Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi after Pakistan’s humiliating 61-run loss to India in the T20 World Cup.
Akhtar said the current situation in Pakistan is the result of years of poor leadership and poor decision-making.
In an interview with ABP News after the match, he criticized the leadership of Pakistan Cricket Board, saying: “A person who knows nothing has become the president of Pakistan Cricket Board. What can you do? How will the team function?”
He also blasted the team’s reliance on underperforming superstar players, saying: “You take a player who can’t win games for you and develop him into a superstar.”
Akhtar added that poor appointments were a major problem, calling it “the biggest crime in the world is giving a given job to incompetent people.”
He even described Naqvi as “incompetent and ‘jaahil'” and said he was unfit to lead the board.
Akhtar also criticized Pakistan’s performance, saying the team was far behind India and lacked modern cricketing standards.
He said Pakistan had failed to invest in talent over the years and could no longer compete with India at the highest level.
In this match, India registered a victory of 175/7 with the help of Ishan Kishan’s 77 runs and the useful contributions of Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube.
Pakistan’s chase failed early, falling to 13/3 in just two overs. Babar Azam was dismissed cheaply and despite Usman Khan’s 44 runs, the team still conceded goals frequently.
India’s bowlers dominated, with Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy sharing the wickets, as Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs.
