Bengals backup QB Jake Browning will hit the free agent market

The Cincinnati Bengals have decided not to sign quarterback Jake Browning, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The Bengals will allow Jake Browning to test free agency.

Fowler mentioned that the Bengals would be willing to bring Jake Browning back. I imagine this would only happen if both sides end up being unable to get the deal they want elsewhere in free agency. The Bengals may consider bringing back Joe Flacco, also a free agent. They could pursue another veteran option in free agency, or they could wait and see if they can add a new player on the third day of this year’s 2026 NFL Draft.

In the 2025 season, Browning succeeded Joe Burrow with a completion rate of 64.8%. He threw six touchdowns and eight interceptions in the four games he played after Burrow was injured before being replaced by Flacco.

What route do you think the Bengals’ backup quarterback will take this season?
