2025 has been a devastating year for the craft beer industry, with more than 250 breweries in the United States permanently closing in the first six months of the year.
Most craft breweries blame rising costs, slowing bar traffic and fierce retail competition for their closures, according to Craft Beer America .
The Brewers Association reports that the number of craft breweries in the United States dropped from 9,747 in 2023 to 9,269 in June 2025, and the number continues to decline.
Several craft breweries have filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and closed this year, including St. Petersburg, Florida-based Dissent Craft Brewing, which filed for liquidation in August; Iron Hill Brewery LLC of Exton, Pennsylvania, and Strike Brewing Company of San Jose, California, both filed petitions in October; and Oregon-based Rogue Ales & Spirits filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in November.
One of the most notable craft breweries to close is Albuquerque, New Mexico-based Bosque Brewing Company, which filed for Chapter 11 protection in October 2025 and closed two of its 11 New Mexico breweries in December.
Now, popular Ohio beer brand and brewery Entropy Brewing Company has posted on social media that it won’t be able to make it through New Year’s Eve as it will permanently close operations on December 27, 2025.
The Miamisburg, Ohio-based craft brewery, restaurant and bar revealed in a Facebook post on December 12 that it would be closing operations on December 27, but did not provide a reason for the closure.
“We have an important update to share: Entropy Brewing Co. will be closing on December 27, 2025. We are so grateful for the incredible support this community has shown us. Thank you for the memories, laughter, and many good times shared here,” the brewery said in a Facebook post.
“Many of us have developed great friendships with many of you. Please visit and say goodbye. Cheers!” the message concluded.
Entropy Brewing Co. opened on July 3, 2024, in a 125-year-old building in downtown Miamisburg that was built in 1900 to house Suttman’s men’s and boys’ clothing, but the building closed in 2013, the Dayton Daily News reported.
The fledgling craft brewery, which describes itself as “a multi-generational brewpub for the whole family,” has an indoor playground for children ages 2 to 10 in an adjacent building that houses the brewpub kitchen.
The brewery features a taproom on the main floor and a speakeasy and cocktail bar in the basement. There are one- and two-bedroom apartments on the second and third floors.
