Bears expected to retain Declan Doyle, Al Harris for 2026 season

The Chicago Bears are coming off an impressive 2025 season that saw them move from worst to first with an 11-6 record, win the NFC North title, and defeat the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs. This certainly makes Ben Johnson’s coaching staff highly sought after.

Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, defensive backs coach/pass passing coordinator Al Harris and running backs coach Eric Bieniemy all generated interest this offseason, with Bieniemy leaving to become the offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs.

But it looks like the Bears may be taking a break. While Doyle and Harris are in high demand (with multiple interviews), Johnson appears to be keeping two of his most important assistants through the 2026 season. Doyle and Harris are expected to return, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

“Right now, the only change they’re making is replacing Eric Bieniemy as the running backs coach,” Biggs said on 670 the Score. “Declan Doyle will probably end up with the Bears for at least one more season. And Al Harris, I don’t think he’s going to accomplish anything in Pittsburgh at this point… But, at this point, I expect Declan Doyle and Al Harris to be back on Ben Johnson’s staff in 2026.”

Harris interviewed for defensive coordinator positions with the Packers and Washington Commanders and was linked to the defensive coordinator position with new Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy. But all three roles have been filled, suggesting he will return.

Doyle, meanwhile, interviewed for the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator position and later retired from the game. He did receive an interview request from the Baltimore Ravens for the vacant OC position, but the position has not yet been filled.
