Senior Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has confirmed his inclusion in the Red Devils’ bid for a 12th Youth Cup trophy against 2024 champions Manchester City, who finished runners-up to Aston Villa last year.

Carrick, who won the FA Youth Cup with West Ham in 1999, said he was “disappointed” that Manchester City rejected United’s proposal to host the tournament at Old Trafford.

Manchester City, the home team, has chosen the 6,000-capacity Joie Stadium as the venue for the final, while work is underway on the Etihad Stadium.

City beat Manchester United 3-1 in the 1986 final over two legs at Old Trafford and Maine Road, the first of their four Youth Cup victories.

BBC Sports Director Alex Kay-Jeski said: “This is a brilliant moment, bringing together two outstanding academies and some of the brightest young talent in English football.

“We are very pleased that through this partnership, fans who are unable to attend the event in person will be able to watch the game live on BBC digital platforms.”

The Youth Cup final kicks off at 19:00 BST and will be broadcast live on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app at 18:30.
