The BBC confirmed the authenticity of the video in a news broadcast at 10pm GMT. reporter Ross Atkins The man in the video “has the same fur, facial hair and gait as Alex Pretti, with facial recognition tools showing a 97% match. We see him shouting insults at agents.” Separately, a BBC spokesperson confirmed to Mediaite that they reviewed the video and confirmed that its team did use facial recognition technology in the video.

The narrator of the video said TNM’s Team – made up of journalists Darin Melo and Danming — A report was received that federal agents blocked a street in Minneapolis around 10:15 a.m. When they arrived, they recorded a man who looked like Preeti spitting in a Ford SUV and yelling at immigration officers “They’re trash!”
The man who looked like Preti was wearing a black hat, a brown coat and a beard; the narrator noted that this was similar to the clothes Preti was wearing when she was killed on January 24. He then kicked the right taillight twice, smashing it, and gave the vehicle his middle finger.
At this point, “an agent got out of the car, grabbed him and pushed him to the ground,” the voiceover says.
The man, who appears to be Pretty, can be seen trying to run away from one agent before another agent grabs him and both men push him down.
“During the altercation, agents fired tear gas and pepper balls into the crowd,” the narrator continues. “They continued to hold the man down and then retreated and he walked away.”
The narrator said there appeared to be a gun “above his waistband” in the video.
The video quickly went viral on X shortly after it was posted on Wednesday. Republican Communications Advisor Steve Guest The video received 1.4 million views in the first two hours after it was posted. He mistakenly called it “a breaking story from the BBC” – a mistake several other users also made.
“Important context: Pretty is not a peaceful protester,” Guest added.

“Alex Pretti spat at a federal agent and then kicked off his taillight in video released by the BBC, 11 days before his death,” he posted.
Megyn Kelly shared the video and said it showed Preeti was “eager for another confrontation with Border Patrol, whom he has been stalking, harassing and intimidating.”
She continued, “He keeps hurting them. His felonies are all on tape. He’s reckless and it’s costing him his life. Find another mailman, outlaw-loving leftist.”
