Bayern keeper Neuer admits he misses former team-mate Müller

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer admits he misses his former team-mate Thomas Muller.

“You can tell he’s missed. He got on well with everyone and he was a link between young and old,” Neuer told the At Broski – Die Sport Show podcast in an episode released on Saturday night.

“He communicates a lot with body language and is able to connect with the players to a certain extent because they feel included immediately,” he added.

The 36-year-old Muller left Bayern in the summer after 25 years because his contract was not renewed. He currently plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps of Major League Soccer.

Neuer was seated at a table of four on the Bayern team bus with Leon Goretzka, Konrad Laimer and Muller, but Muller’s seat is now empty.

The goalkeeper joined Bayern from Schalke in 2011, but his career could have been different: Cologne and Arsenal were “very interested” in him after a spell with Schalke’s under-19 side.

“But I don’t want to go abroad because I know it will be difficult as a youth national team goalkeeper,” he said.

“You might not really be able to establish yourself on the island (England).”
