Barcelona keeping an eye on La Liga for possible winter defensive reinforcements

With the January transfer window approaching, FC Barcelona is seriously considering signing a new centre-back as a temporary solution.

After all, Andreas Christensen is out for four months with a partially ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, while Ronald Araujo is resting for mental health reasons.

With Eric Garcia moved into defensive midfield, there are concerns over a lack of depth at centre-back, although Gerard Martin emerges as an option.

As a result, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick and director Deco are keeping a close eye on the market for potential targets to strengthen their defensive lineup in the second half of the season.

Barcelona monitors La Liga

to this end, world sports news Barcelona are reportedly eyeing La Liga for potential reinforcements at centre-back.

The idea is to be in the market for established defenders from Spain’s top flight who haven’t played many games for their own club and would see a move to Camp Nou as an opportunity.

Some names that could reportedly be considered possible options include Real Betis’ Diego Llorente, Rayo Vallecano’s Luis Felipe and Villarreal’s Juan Foyth.

All three players have been on the radar of Barcelona in the past and the club could consider revisiting their interest if necessary.

However, it must be noted that Llorente was out injured until mid-January, while Felipe was also plagued by fitness issues at Rayo Vallecano, limiting his playing time.

Foyth is a player Barcelona have been heavily linked with in the recent past, and his ability to play at center back and right back makes him an attractive target. However, Villarreal are unlikely to sell him as they battle for a top two spot in La Liga.

What is clear is that Barcelona are exploring all possible avenues as they consider taking advantage of Christensen’s long-term absence to bolster their defence.
