Barcelona delay final call on 28-year-old forward as salary concern clouds transfer

Barcelona’s process of permanently acquiring Marcus Rashford is more complicated than it initially appears.

While the framework for the deal was in place, the club deliberately delayed making a final decision, and not because of the transfer fee.

As previously reported, Barcelona have completed most of the groundwork needed to bring United to the Camp Nou.

A non-compulsory purchase option worth €30 million has been agreed, payable in three installments for a total amount of €10 million.

On top of that, personal terms with the player have also been finalized and a three-year contract is ready to be activated.

However, despite everything being in place, the club has chosen not to rush into completing the deal.

Any questions?

According to Mundo Deportivo, the main issue is not the transfer fee itself, which is considered manageable, but the financial impact of Rashford’s salary.

As it stands, the club needs more evidence before making a commitment.

Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Rashford in the final stages of the season.

While his overall figures of 10 goals and 13 assists in 38 games suggest he is making a solid contribution, there are concerns over his recent form as he has not scored since January 31.

This explains why the Catalan side are willing to wait, even if the player himself is eager to resolve his future as soon as possible.

If Rashford is available at the end of the season, especially in high-pressure games, Barcelona will not hesitate to activate the purchase option.

In this case, his impact on the pitch justifies the financial risk.

However, if he continues to struggle, the situation becomes more uncertain.

Considering the proportion of his salary in the salary structure, Barcelona cannot afford to gamble without clear sporting guarantees.
