Backstage Update On Drilla Moloney’s NJPW Future

NJPW star Drilla Moloney has been the subject of much discussion in recent weeks as news of his signing with New Japan Pro Wrestling continues to spread. Moloney is one of many foreign talents whose current contracts are coming to an end, but unlike many others who have said goodbye to NJPW, Moloney remains in Japan.

Following the “New Beginnings in Osaka” event on February 11, Moloney confirmed that he had reached a new deal with NJPW and would remain with the company through 2026. Following Moloney’s announcement, Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp gathered more details about the deal, reporting that the Briton had politely turned down a lot of interest from American companies in order to continue working in Japan. Sapp also reported that the new deal, finalized a week before the major event in Osaka, will last for one year, keeping Moloney in NJPW until February 2027 at the earliest, which is also a very favorable deal.

Moloney would continue in NJPW as part of Team Dragons with Shingo Takagi, and the two defeated the United Empire’s Great-O-Khan and HENARE at “Osaka New Beginnings.” They will still be part of the new Unbound Co. stable founded by Yota Tsuji, but the stable has gone through a lot of transitions in Osaka. Hiromu Takahashi participated in his final wrestling match with NJPW as he was confirmed to be leaving the company days before the event and received a grand farewell. David Finlay also said goodbye to NJPW fans following his loss to Callum Newman amid rumors of a possible move to WWE. Clark Connors was also absent from “AEW Dynamite” when he wrestled that day after reports surfaced that he had signed a contract with AEW. It remains to be seen whether Connors’ reported AEW contract allows him to continue working for NJPW.
