Just days after the Los Angeles Lakers are almost back to full health, one of their very important players has been struck by a new illness.

On Friday, news broke that Austin Reeves had suffered a calf strain. He will miss at least a week as a result, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

“Lakers guard Austin Reeves has a strained left calf and will be reevaluated in approximately a week,” McMenamin wrote.

“While calf strains typically sideline NBA players for at least two to four weeks, the Lakers described Reeves’ calf strain as ‘minor.'”

As he has done every season since the end of his rookie season, Reeves has improved his production so far this year. He averaged 27.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game, shooting 50.3% from the field and 36.9% from three-point range. Some say he is becoming a true superstar.

However, shooting consistency is still not his friend. In the past two games, he has shot a total of 9-for-32 and scored 26 points. After Wednesday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Lakers coach J.J. Redick said he has led the team through six weeks and while acknowledging it takes a toll on players, Redick also said Reeves “is going to have more good nights than frustrating nights.”

Los Angeles will face the Phoenix Suns on the road on Sunday at 5:00 PM PT. This will be a “make-up” game arranged after the two teams lost in the Emirates NBA Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.
