Asus ROG Ally 2 Spotted via US FCC Listing Alongside ‘Project Kennan’ Xbox Handheld

Asus is expected to launch its second-generation handheld gaming console, the ROG Ally 2, in the coming weeks, with the design and specs of the upcoming device now leaked online. A leaked listing on the US regulator’s website shows that the Asus ROG Ally 2 and the company’s Xbox-branded handheld device (codenamed “Project Kennan”) will feature 7-inch 120Hz displays and AMD processors. Images of these handheld consoles also suggest that they will feature an improved external design similar to game controllers.

ASUS ROG Ally 2 may come in two versions

A listing on Indonesia’s SDPPI certification website (via 91Mobiles) suggests that Asus is developing two models for the ROG Ally 2, and that the handheld gaming console will be available in black (RC73X1) and white (RC73YA) variants. These models are also mentioned in a listing on the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website.

VideoCardz was able to obtain images of the Asus ROG Ally 2 from reports on Asus and MediaTek on the US FCC website. The black model looks similar to the white model, but has a dedicated Xbox button. The white version also has a button in the same location but doesn’t have the same logo.

It’s unclear what the dedicated Xbox button on the black version will do, but a recent report suggested that Microsoft is working on improving the Windows handheld console with an “Xbox experience.” Most handheld consoles run on Windows, which, unlike Valve’s SteamOS, doesn’t offer an experience optimized for smaller monitors.

According to reports, the black version of the ROG Ally 2 will be equipped with an octa-core AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme (36W) processor coupled with 64GB LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. Meanwhile, the white version is said to come with a slightly less powerful AMD Aeirth Plus (20W) processor, and the RAM capacity of this model has not been revealed.

Both models feature a 7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The leaked images give us a clear look at the black and white model’s screens, but they’re turned off, so we don’t know what software is running on either console. Previous reports suggested that the Project Kennan device would “combine” the Windows and Xbox experiences.

Last month, Asus teased the arrival of the next-generation ROG Ally gaming console with a number of hardware upgrades, but did not reveal whether it would be an Xbox-branded device. At the time, the official Xbox account responded to the company’s post on X (formerly Twitter) with a meme, sparking speculation that the upcoming device would be an Xbox-branded handheld.

It’s worth noting that Asus is expected to launch new devices at Computex 2025 in Taipei, where the ROG Ally 2 (along with the Project Kennan console) may debut alongside other upcoming devices. Microsoft is also likely to make an announcement around the same time, so it’ll be worth keeping an eye out for news at Computex, which kicks off on May 20.
