Assistant principal at Georgia elementary school accused of stealing from Walmart nearly 100 times

The deputy principal of a Cherokee County elementary school is on leave after being charged with nearly 100 thefts.

Courtney Shaw, 47, is the assistant principal at Free Home Elementary School, according to the school’s website.

Incident report filed and obtained by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Channel 2 Action News Shaw is accused of stealing from Walmart 98 times in just two months.

The report states that between Nov. 2 and Dec. 31, Shaw stole $943.97 worth of merchandise from the Bells Ferry Road store.

They said Shaw stacked items on top of each other at checkout but scanned only one item before placing them in a bag or shopping cart.

Channel 2 Action News The Cherokee County School District was contacted for a statement and learned Shaw has been placed on administrative leave pending internal and law enforcement investigations.

We are aware that a Free Home ES employee has been arrested in connection with an incident that has nothing to do with our school or district. Once the allegations were reported, the employee was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of internal and law enforcement investigations.

Shaw has attended Free Home Elementary School since 2024, according to the school’s website.

Prior to that, she served as assistant principal at Bascom Elementary School for eight years, according to the Bascom Elementary School website.
