Arizona a unanimous No. 1 for first time, Saint Louis and Miami of Ohio join AP Top 25

Arizona is ranked unanimously No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll for the first time.

The Wildcats received all 61 votes from the media panel in Monday’s poll, a week after receiving just one first-place vote.

Arizona (18-0) won two games last week to remain among the three undefeated Division I teams and earn a unanimous No. 1 ranking for the first time since Iowa State lost two games. The Cyclones, who received one first-place vote last week, dropped seven spots to No. 9 after an undefeated season.

Arizona has been ranked No. 1 for six weeks, its longest streak since the Wildcats went eight weeks in a row to start the 2013-14 season 21-0. UConn, Michigan, Purdue and Duke round out the top five.

No. 7 Nebraska (18-0) won two games last week to remain undefeated and moved up one spot this week to reach its highest-ever ranking.

No. 24 St. Louis (17-1) moved into the top spot for the first time since No. 22 in 2021 after extending its winning streak to 11 straight games.

Miami (Ohio) is ranked No. 25 for the first time since 1998-99, when it spent three consecutive weeks in the AP Top 25. The RedHawks defeated Central Michigan on Tuesday but needed overtime to beat Buffalo 105-102 on Saturday, tying the game on Pete Soder’s 3-pointer with just over a second left.

No. 18 Clemson is the most improved team among the teams that have participated in the survey, climbing four spots with wins over Boston College and Miami.

Texas Tech, then ranked No. 12, moved up three spots to No. 12 after its win over Utah. 11 Brigham Young University.

No. 22 North Carolina, which dropped eight spots after being swept by ACC Bay Area schools, was the week’s biggest droper.

Ninth-ranked Iowa State lost seven spots after losing to two unranked teams in Kansas and Cincinnati. No. 15 Vanderbilt dropped five spots after its undefeated season ended with losses to Texas and No. 16 Florida.

No. 19 Kansas returns to the polls after losing to Iowa State last week and beating Baylor by 18 points.

St. Louis and Miami (Ohio) are the only other teams on this week’s ballot.

Tennessee lost to Kentucky 80-78, blowing a 17-point lead and falling from No. 24. Utah State lost to Grand Canyon University on the road, knocking the Aggies from No. 23 in the standings.

Seton Hall didn’t receive a single vote, falling from No. 25 after losses to UConn and Butler.

Meeting viewing

Kansas returns to the polls to give the Big 12 the top six teams in the nation. The Southeastern Conference, Big Ten Conference and ACC each have five ranked teams.

The Big East, West Coast, Atlantic-10 and Mid-American conferences have one each.
