Apple’s Foldable iPhone Will Reportedly Ditch Face ID for This Feature

Apple’s foldable iPhone The company is reportedly replacing Face ID with another beloved feature. The manufacturer reportedly made this decision keeping in mind the lean construction and design of the new foldable iPhone. The American tech giant will reportedly rely on a Touch ID fingerprint sensor built into the side button.

Apple’s foldable iPhone may not include Face ID

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s new foldable iPhone will skip Face ID and choose Touch ID. The fingerprint sensor will be built into the side button, which will recognize the user’s unique fingerprint and enable the phone’s features.

Gurman explained that the front panel of the foldable phone is “too thin to accommodate the Face ID sensor array.” The design also allows the new foldable phone to maintain its lean structure without compromising the user’s biometric security.

To explain in more detail, the foldable phone is expected to feature a small punch-hole camera instead of a Face ID sensor and front-facing camera. Touch ID will reportedly be integrated into the device’s side buttons, similar to other devices from the brand, such as the iPad.

Gurman assured users, however, that the foldable phone certainly won’t skip Apple’s Dynamic Island feature, which displays real-time alerts and activity. For a more vivid description, the report also states that the device may resemble “two iPhone Airs stuck together,” similar to the iPhone Air that will be released in September 2025.

Gurman said that since the device will have a more powerful interface and iPad-style layout, users will get more benefits. Users can seamlessly run multiple applications in parallel. Additionally, the American tech giant is reportedly updating its “core” apps to add a sidebar on the left side of the screen.

According to Gurman, the new iPhone Fold may cost $2,000. Previously, YouTuber Jon Prosser revealed that the new foldable iPhone may be launched in September 2026 together with the iPhone 18 Pro. Prosser said it will be available in black and white color options. While it will have a book-like feel, there won’t be a noticeable crease on the screen.
