Appeal after man raped in town over Christmas

Sussex Police are appealing for information after a man in his 30s was raped in Lewes.

Police said the incident occurred near Brook Street near Pells Pool between 22:00 on Christmas Eve and 03:00 GMT on Christmas Day.

The statement added that a heightened police presence will be in place in the East Sussex town while police investigate the incident.

Inspector Gavin Patch said the public had an “important role” to play in helping police gain a clearer understanding of the incident.

He continued: “Were you in Lewes on Christmas Eve? Did you see anything suspicious? Do you have any footage from the area or any information that could help.

“If you think you can help in any way please do contact police.”

Police said the victim was being supported by specialist officers and care professionals as the investigation progressed.
