The 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend gives us a lot to think about. Kevin Durant’s alleged burner scandal, an absolutely terrible dunk contest, and a pretty good All-Star Game in which Kawhi Leonard took over and Victor Wembunyama upped the ante in the competition. No one was talking about tanks for days, and that was really all the league could ask for.
When the best players in the world come together for a weekend, there are always some viral moments, especially these days when the cameras and microphones are constantly rolling. Anthony Edwards covered his mouth and made an off-the-cuff comment about Atlanta Hawks star Jalen Johnson after Sunday’s All-Star Game. It sure sounds like Atlanta native Edwards saying “I can’t wait to get home,” adding “You all have so many wings and (Jonathan) Kuminga is great too” I remember interviewing Edwards at Atlanta High School in 2019 and he could only dream of becoming America’s greatest NBA star. Now that it’s actually happened, maybe he’s dreaming of returning to his hometown.

The Hawks acquired Kuminga from the Golden State Warriors before the trade deadline. Atlanta finished 10th in the Eastern Conference with a 26-30 record after trading Trae Young earlier this season.
Is this panic moment for Wolves? not yet. Edwards’ contract is valid through the 2028-2029 season. Minnesota has made consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances since drafting Edwards with the No. 1 overall pick in 2020, and they have four more playoff chances with him under contract before he can test free agency.
The NBA hasn’t had a superstar switch teams in free agency since Kawhi Leonard did so in 2019. New York and Los Angeles are typically the markets elite players hope to end up in, so it was interesting to hear Edwards speculate on a return to Atlanta. Life has always been easier in the Eastern Conference, so maybe that’s part of the appeal.

Edwards might just be talking about returning home to Minnesota after the All-Star break. Maybe he meant chicken wings, not small forward. If so, why did he cover his mouth?
Ultimately, Wolves fans have nothing to worry about right now, and Hawks fans can’t get too excited. Edwards is still under contract, plays for a very good team, and he won’t get a chance to test free agency for a long time. It’s just another viral moment from this All-Star weekend.
