No one was injured when an American Airlines plane ran off a taxiway at Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport Thursday night.
American Airlines Flight 3057 was bound for Charlotte, North Carolina, when the Boeing 737-800 “partially left the paved surface of the taxiway” and slid into the grass, according to the airline.
The pilot of the plane appeared to have “turned too sharply and left the pavement,” according to the Rochester Airport Firefighters Association in New York. Authorities said the plane’s nose landing gear became stuck in the mud.
The incident occurred at around 7pm with 90 passengers and six crew members on board the aircraft
Everyone on the plane was bused back to the terminal, according to airline and fire officials. The flight will take off again on Friday morning, according to the airline. Passengers on connecting flights were also rebooked, according to American Airlines.
Snow fell in Rochester on Thursday, with 7 inches of snow falling at the airport that day, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo. Authorities said the plane had been de-iced before leaving the gate Thursday “due to snowfall and freezing temperatures.”
Fire officials said heavy rescue crews were called in to tow the plane back to the pavement. The incident was resolved within three hours on Thursday night.
