Almonds fall from the sky, damage cars after semi truck fire on San Diego highway

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) – A semi-truck caught fire on a highway bridge in San Diego on Tuesday, snarling traffic for hours and sending hundreds of pounds of almonds to a parking lot below.

Footage from a news helicopter showed the semi-truck and its trailer destroyed by flames on I-805.

The fire started around 6 a.m. and officials have not yet determined the cause.

The FOX 5/KUSI team visited a business park below the highway and saw parking lots covered in hundreds of pounds of almonds.

At the site, the team said more almonds were falling from above.

A receptionist at Synergy Orthopedics in the business park said several vehicles were damaged in the parking lot and the CHP was on scene to delineate the scene.

Mission Valley Business Park houses several medical offices.
