It was revealed at the weekend that Liverpool striker Alexander Isak may have suffered a broken leg, which will keep the Sweden international out for several months and potentially much of the second half of the season as a result.
Today, at a press conference for Saturday’s Premier League game against Wolves, head coach Arne Slaughter confirmed that Isaac will indeed be out for months, not days or weeks. On the positive side, though, it’s a schedule that means he could play again this season.

“This is going to be a long-term injury,” Slaughter said. “It’s been a few months. It’s a very, very big disappointment for him and certainly for us. I think it’s a very difficult time for him. You join a new club and you want to show immediately all the qualities you have.
“But that’s not possible. If you don’t have three or four months of serious training with a team and you play in this league, you need to be at your best for the game. We all know that it takes months because there is no pre-season.
“We barely have time to train so we always know it takes time and that’s why he’s so unlucky that he’s injured now because I think we all saw his goal against West Ham, this one on Saturday, that’s getting him closer to the player he was at Newcastle.”
An expected two to three month break – which could be a longer period before Isak is able to train with his teammates – could see Isak on the court again in late March. But by then, he was far from game-fit and sharp.
