Less than 24 hours after winning a national championship with Indiana, Alberto Mendoza announced his transfer to Georgia Tech.
He announced the decision in a message posted on Instagram in conjunction with the On3 transfer portal account on Tuesday.

Mendoza was Indiana’s primary backup under older brother Fernando in 2025 as a redshirt freshman. He played in nine games, completing 18 of 24 passes with five touchdowns and one interception. He gained 190 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
Alberto played in one game as a true freshman in 2024 behind sixth-year quarterback Curtis Locke.
He joins a Yellow Jackets team that is off to its first 8-0 start since 1966 in 2025 under coach Brent Key and quarterback Hines King. Georgia Tech lost its past four regular-season games to North Carolina State, Pitt and Georgia, ultimately losing its ACC title hopes.
The Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the Pop-Tarts Bowl, scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but lost to BYU 25-21.

This is King’s final year of eligibility after a six-year college career. He was a three-year starter at Georgia Tech after transferring from Texas A&M.
Alberto Mendoza has previously spoken with head coach Kurt Cignetti about his intention to stay in Indiana despite the team adding former TCU quarterback Josh Hoover through the transfer portal. Cignetti spoke about young Mendoza’s future with the team ahead of Saturday’s championship game.
“We’ll see what happens with Alberto,” Signetti said. “I think he has a great future. I really like him as a player. We’ll see what the future holds.”
