Remedy Entertainment announced Thursday that Alan Wake 2’s expansion pack “The Lake House” will be released on October 22. The second and final expansion for the critically acclaimed survival horror game will deepen the connections between the base game and other Remedy games in the shared universe. Lake House adds a new protagonist and tells a new story that takes place parallel to the early parts of Alan Wake 2. The expansion, first announced last month, takes place in a location called Lake House, a Federal Bureau of Control research station on the shores of Cauldron Lake.

Remedy announced the release date and showed off The Lake House gameplay for the first time during an Xbox Partner Preview event on Thursday. The expansion tells the story of FBC agent Kiran Estevez, further establishing the interconnected universe between the Control and Alan Wake games. The Lake House will be an entirely new location, first teased in the base game. In addition to the new story, Lake House will also add new weapons and terrifying new enemies.
Lake House will also focus more on the survival horror elements of Alan Wake 2, heightening the sense of fear. The FBC facility will become a nightmare house, with threats lurking in its dark corners. The expansion will also reveal more secrets about the elusive Federal Bureau of Control, which first appeared in Remedy’s 2019 action-adventure game Control.
“Like some of the larger missions in Alan Wake 2’s main game, this mission is structured like a more traditional survival horror game,” game director Kyle Rowley told Xbox Wire. “There is a massive open structure for players to explore, secrets to discover, and dangerous enemies to survive.
“Narrative obviously plays a big role in the expansion – just like it does in the main game – so it’s definitely worth exploring and trying to find the many narrative objects scattered throughout the environment.”
Players can jump into The Lake House expansion pack from Alan Wake 2’s main menu, but can also complete missions seamlessly while playing the main campaign. The Lake House expansion pack is available to all owners of Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition. Players who own the standard version of the main game can choose to purchase the Deluxe Upgrade separately and receive two expansion packs – Night Springs and The Lake House.
