This week’s voting identifies five basketball players who excelled during the week of Jan. 25-31, including two North Port Huron guards who have excelled this season.
Voting closes on Friday 6 February at 2pm.
Here are the nominees (in alphabetical order by last name):
tire mouth, detroit center
Detroit Central senior point guard Tyre Acuff was nominated for the second consecutive week on Friday, Jan. 30, making the game-winning three-pointer in the team’s 72-71 win over Detroit Renaissance. He finished the game with 32 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists while also surpassing 1,000 career points.
Cam Harju, North Port Huron

Port Huron North senior guard Cam Harju scored 26 points on 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc to help the Huskies beat Warren Lincoln 86-76 on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Two days later, he scored 20 points on 7-for-8 free throw shooting in a 68-52 loss to Macomb Dakota.

Amir Moran, North Port Huron

Not to be outdone by his teammates, senior guard Amir Morelan had a stellar performance this past week (even hitting a few major milestones).
On January 28, Moran scored 23 points on 10-for-11 shooting in North’s win over Warren Lincoln, and three days later he had 18 points and five assists in a 68-56 loss to Red River. Despite the loss, Moran surpassed the 1,000-point mark against Red River and set the school’s career assist record.
Cameron Johnson, Pontiac Academy of Excellence
Pontiac Academy of Excellence sophomore Cameron Johnson helped the Eagles to their third straight win with 25 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 50-43 win over Detroit Community on Jan. 27.

Alan Sphek, Troy Athens
On January 27, Troy Athens’ young forward Alan Sfage played in the team’s 70-43 victory over Royal Oak and scored a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds. He made 4 of 5 three-pointers and added 3 blocks.
