Ahmad Hudson headlines top 2027 tight ends entering the spring

The tight end position has continued to evolve over the years.

Some players in the position group are better at blocking. Others are more hybrid receivers. But for some, they’ve perfected the position by playing both roles.

At the high school level, elite tight ends can make or break an offense. This recruiting cycle features some of the deepest talent the position team has seen in a while.

The USA TODAY high school athletics department has launched its spring scouting campaign, focusing on top quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers. Here are the top 10 tight ends in the 2027 class.

1. Ahmed Hudson

School: Ruston (Louisiana)

high: 6-6.5

weight: 239

Commitment status: uncommitted

Summary: A two-sport standout, Hudson earned Final Four invitations in both basketball and football. A Navy All-American Bowl player, he caught six passes for 169 yards and a touchdown in the Bearcats’ loss.

2. Jackson Dollar

School: East Lincoln (Denver, NC)

high: 6-5

weight: 222

Commitment status: uncommitted

Summary: Not many tight ends can claim to put up numbers like Doral in 2025. Last year, he had 54 catches for 1,190 yards and 20 touchdowns. Defensively, he finished with 38 tackles, 13 sacks and 5 sacks.

3.Brock Williams

School: Libertyville (Illinois)

high: 6-5

weight: 210

Commitment status: uncommitted

Summary: As a huge receiving target, not many tight ends in the 2027 class have as high an upside as Williams. Last year, he led Libertyville with 44 catches for 596 yards and 11 touchdowns.

4. Seneca Driver

School: Boyle County (Danville, Kentucky)

high: 6-6

weight: 234

Commitment status: uncommitted

Summary: For new Kentucky head coach Will Stein, keeping Driver in the Bluegrass State seemed like a must. It won’t be easy, though, as he holds offers from nearly every other Final Four program in the country, including the likes of Indiana, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Mississippi State and Tennessee.

5. Jack Brown

School: Francis Howell Center (St. Charles, MO)

high: 6-5

weight: 215

Commitment status: uncommitted

Summary: Like Kentucky and Driver, keeping Brown in his hometown seems like a must for Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers. He has visited the school several times, most recently on January 31.

6. Brooks Bacow

School: Relative(ND)

high: 6-4

weight: 205

Commitment status: uncommitted

Summary: No North Dakota player will be better in 2025 than Barco. He was the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year and led Kindred to a 10-1 record, catching 41 passes for 757 yards and a school-record 12 touchdowns. He also excelled defensively, finishing with 70 tackles and seven interceptions.

7. Lahzario Edwards

School: Grant League (Sacramento, CA)

high: 6-6

weight: 210

Commitment status: uncommitted

Summary: Edwards didn’t get his start on the football field, but he’s quickly made a name for himself on it over the past two years. He was Grant’s second-leading receiver last season, catching 23 passes for 634 yards and five touchdowns in nine games.

8. Korz Loken

School: Iola – Scandinavia (Iola, Wisconsin)

high: 6-5

weight: 220

Commitment status: Wisconsin

Summary: Lorcan only played one game in 2025 due to a broken arm. However, he excelled on both sides of the ball during his sophomore season, catching 28 passes for 425 yards, nine touchdowns, and 41 tackles on defense.

9. Cooper Terwilliger

School: TF Riggs (Pierre, SD)

high: 6-5

weight: 225

Commitment status: uncommitted

Summary: Terwilliger, a tight end who excels as a blocker and receiver, has as many as 25 offers from major Final Four programs on his offer list. Some standouts include Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and Tennessee.

10. Landon Bloom

School: Woodbine (Woodbine, Iowa)

high: 6-4

weight: 200

Commitment status: uncommitted

Summary: Bloom is in a unique situation, being the only player on this list who plays eight-man football. Even so, major programs like Miami, Mississippi State and Penn State haven’t given up on making offers to him.
