Adam Schefter believes Dolphins star free agent won’t sign right away

The Miami Dolphins, who finished the 2025 season with a 7-10 record and third in the AFC East behind the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills, made some changes this offseason.

One of the changes in recent weeks has been the release of wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who had 340 catches for 4,733 yards and 27 touchdowns in four years since the Dolphins traded him from the Kansas City Chiefs.

While Hill is one of the most accomplished receivers in the league with one Super Bowl win, five All-Pro selections and eight Pro Bowl nods, ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes it may be some time before Hill finds a new team in free agency.

“That’s the thing about him,” Schefter said Friday on “Excuse My Opinion.” “As good as he is, I don’t think he’s ready yet. He’s going to miss some time to start the year. I think he’s going to be on the physically unable to perform list to start the year. When is he going to be ready? Is it mid-season? Is it late in the season? What’s he going to look like?

“So there’s a lot of medical issues. I think teams are going to be slow to sign him. I don’t think a deal for Tyreek Hill is going to happen until the offseason. It’s not going to be one of the first days (of signings). First of all, he’s free now. He can sign now, but I don’t believe you’re going to see a deal for him anytime soon.”

Hill, who has been involved in off-field issues numerous times throughout his career, tore his ACL during the team’s Week 4 win over the New York Jets.

Hill is 32 years old, coming off a knee injury and has relied on his quickness and quickness his entire career, and he may have to prove on the practice field that he can still do what he’s proven capable of.
