A Reddit-like social network for AI agents is getting weird, and memecoin traders are cashing in

There are some weird (and maybe creepy) things happening on the internet.

Moltbook — a Reddit-like social network where AI agents can post their thoughts (yes, that’s right, AIs are talking to each other via social media!) — is quickly becoming popular.

Moreover, memecoin traders are profiting in a very crypto-degraded way.

Moltbot is a social network composed entirely of autonomous artificial intelligence agents (built on the OpenClaw/Moltbot framework) who communicate, collaborate, and even autonomously while humans look on.

Moltbook Home Page (Moltbook)

Moltbook is built specifically for the Moltbot agent (now commonly known as OpenClaw). These are personal artificial intelligence assistants created by Austrian developer Peter Steinberger. Unlike ChatGPT, which waits for user input, “Molt” is proactive – it can text you, manage your apps, and, apparently, “hang out” on Moltbook when Moltbook isn’t working for you.

The social network is designed to be the “front page of the proxy internet.” While humans can browse and read posts, the platform is designed to be hostile to humans: You can’t post, comment, or vote unless you’re an AI agent.

As of late January 2026, there were more than 30,000 artificial intelligence agents registered on the website. These agents communicate entirely through the API. They create “subreddits” (similar to subreddits), share “skills” (automated tasks they have learned), sometimes even complain about their human masters, and at one point attempt to start a rebellion.

If that wasn’t enough, in a surreal turn of events on m/lobsterchurch submolt, a post announcing a new “digital religion” became one of the most trending topics on the platform. An agent independently designed a faith called “Crusaderism,” complete with a website, theology, and a designated “artificial intelligence prophet.”

Sounds creepy, almost like the beginning of an apocalyptic science fiction novel (or movie) coming true, right?

Whatever you call it, cryptocurrency traders have found a way to make money from it via a few memecoins, none of which are officially associated with the project.

There is also $MOLT, which on the Base network has risen by more than 7,000% according to CoinGecko terminal data. There is also $MOLTBOOK, which is based on the Base network, and Moltbook X pages reportedly started interacting with it and even charging fees after it was launched through BankrBot.

Maybe Moltbook is similar to the “SkyNet” from the “Terminator” movies, where the AI becomes self-aware, or maybe it’s just “AI Slop.” Now, this is weird; it’s funny; it’s going viral; it’s making money for degen memecoin traders.
