A Nintendo Direct presentation will reportedly take place next month. The Switch 2 maker is reportedly planning a livestream in September to showcase upcoming games for its new platform. Nintendo recently held a livestream dedicated to Switch 2 racing game Kirby Sky Riders, and earlier this month held an Indie World Showcase to showcase indie games coming to its platform.
Nintendo direct meeting planned for next month
According to Nintendo-focused channel SwitchForce, the Nintendo Direct presentation will be livestreamed on September 12, as suggested by a post on X Monday. There’s no word yet on what titles may appear during the broadcast.
The rumor was also confirmed by VGC, with the publication citing its sources as saying that the Nintendo Direct is planned for “mid-September.” It’s also worth noting that September 12th is just one day away from the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., which was released on the NES in Japan on September 13, 2025. The occasion could indicate that the next Super Mario game is about to be released, but that seems unlikely.
Nintendo first-party games on Switch 2
What’s more likely, though, is an update for Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, which is set to release on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 sometime in 2025. Nintendo has yet to confirm a release date, but an announcement could come during a direct demo next month. The company has yet to confirm the next reveal of upcoming games on its platform.
Nintendo has been slow to release first-party games on its new platform, the Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch’s successor launched racing game Mario Kart World and action-adventure platformer Donkey Kong Bananza in July, but the console has been largely supported by Switch 2 versions of older first- and third-party games.
The company hosted a 45-minute Nintendo Direct on August 19 to provide an “in-depth” look at Kirby Sky Riders. This racing game is a Switch 2 exclusive and will launch on November 20th.
First-party games coming to Switch 2 include Kirby and Oblivion + Starcross World later this month, and Pokémon Legends: ZA on October 16. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, announced at the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct showcase in April, is also slated to launch later this year, but does not have a release date.
Fans have also been waiting for news on a follow-up to Super Mario Odyssey, which launched on the original Switch in 2017. However, Nintendo has yet to share any updates on a new 3D Mario game for Switch 2. However, the company did confirm that Donkey Kong Bananza is being made by the team behind Super Mario Odyssey.
