BBC Sport asked Cardiff City fans whether the Bluebirds are still expected to return to the Championship immediately despite their 2-1 defeat at Lincoln City on Saturday.
The Blue Jays remain three points clear at the top of the league, but what aspects of the team would fans like to see strengthened in January?
Here are some responses:
Jon: We need a centre-back, a winger or a creative midfielder, a striker and a left-back and Saturday’s game proved that [Joel] We struggled leaving Bagan. Our defense is not very good and we cannot expect to score one more goal than our opponents like we do now! It’s great to be number one at Christmas, but in my opinion, reinforcements are needed to get an automatic upgrade!

Steve: The team looked tired on Saturday, understandably so after Chelsea, but Lincoln’s substitutes made an impact where ours did not. [Callum] Robinson was once again mediocre – no speed and a poor first touch. [Kion] Etete is not up to the task, so another striker is needed. We still looked vulnerable at set pieces. Is Lawler fully recovered? If the injury is serious, Bagan will be absent. Need a cover? [Omari] Kellyman needs to hit the gym and build muscle [Cian] Ashford’s performance was inconsistent and frustrating. Suitable [Ollie] Tanner will help, but we will definitely be missing [Rubin] Colwell. We need reinforcements if we want to be a real top two.
microphone: I think we will go up, but we need to stop giving away goals so easily. The team’s offense is very good, but it also has a negative impact-the defense is too open. We need to strengthen our defense.
Rhiannon: I think we need another left-back if we want to stay on top because if Joel Bagan gets injured we don’t have a senior player in that position. BBM desperately need to address this defensive partnership – one that changes so often that we concede goals too easily. Hopefully we can get Tanner back in January, but the main priority needs to be left back.
Kelvin: I trust Brian Barry-Murphy; he does a fantastic job and I believe he can inspire the team to automatically get promoted. I wish him a long stay in Cardiff City!

david: BBM should put a lot of effort into creating a football philosophy that is both interesting and effective. This is the only time in my 50-plus years of watching Manchester City that so many young players have been promoted to the first team at the same time. They compete with a high level of skill, passion and purpose. They are a joy to behold!
