The captain was substituted due to injury in the 60th minute of Saturday’s 5-1 Bundesliga home win over 1.FC Cologne.

Although the 40-year-old stayed on to celebrate the Bavarians’ title win, the news was indeed worrying.

With just seven days left until Bayern’s DFB-Pokal final against Stuttgart, it is unclear whether he will be able to recover in time for the 20:00 CET kick-off.

Additionally, despite his retirement, Neuer was included in Julian Nagelsmann’s provisional 55-man squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Speculation is growing that the veteran goalkeeper could return to action and head to the United States, Canada and Mexico.
