A 25-year-old Marine Corps veteran who was on the verge of a breakup has been killed in a shooting in Kansas, allegedly at the hands of her estranged husband.

Ivy Unruh died on April 20 after being shot days earlier outside her apartment in northeast Wichita, according to police.

Her husband, Joshua Orlando, 29, was charged with premeditated first-degree murder, according to court records. He was still held on $1.5 million bail after his initial court appearance, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 5.

Unruh was shot on the morning of April 17 and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died, authorities said. Orlando was taken into custody a short time later. The case is being investigated as a domestic violence homicide.
