ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Jo Adell hit three steals, including a nifty leaping catch while hitting the seats in the ninth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners 1-0 on Saturday night.
Jake Kochanovich (1-0) allowed four hits and struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings, and Zach Neto provided the lone run, a 443-foot home run off Seattle right-hander Emerson Hancock’s fourth pitch in the first. Angels reliever Chase Silseth escaped a two-on-one-out jam in the seventh inning.

In the ninth inning, J.P. Crawford drove the ball to the right field corner. Adell jumped up, put on his glove, climbed over the wall, fell to the first row of seats, and then raised his glove to catch the ball, an action that was upheld after a replay review.
Adell leaped high over the yellow line over the wall to stop Carl Rowley’s solo homer in the first inning, and made a nearly identical catch to stop Josh Naylor’s solo homer in the eighth.
Angels sixth pitcher Jordan Romano then retired Cole Young on an infield pop-up and struck out Leo Rivas for his third save.
Silces replaced Joey Lucchesi with a two-run homer in the seventh, hitting Rivas’ sights and Luke Reilly swinging to ground out Rowley to second.

Kochanovich also escaped a two-out jam on first and third by striking out Randy Arozarena on an 88 mph slider and escaped a two-out jam on a grounder to Arozarena in the third.
The Angels backed up Kochanovich with two more super performances, with left fielder Josh Lowe diving to catch Dominic Canzone’s flare at fourth base and second baseman Ozwald Peraza diving to stop Raley’s fifth-inning grounder to center and to first base.
Hancock (1-1) allowed six hits in 6 2/3 innings against Cleveland on March 29 and struck out five after pitching six hitless innings.
