‘Doesn’t attract the kind of money that … ‘: Why Adam Zampa chose PSL over IPL

New Delhi: Adam Zampa played a key role as Karachi Kings registered a four-wicket win over Shaheen Afridi-led Lahore Qurandars in the Pakistan Super League at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday. The Australian leg-spinner took 2 for 11 in four overs, including a maiden ball, and was named man of the match. Zampa will next face Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Before that match, Zampa was asked why he chose the Pakistan Super League over the Indian Premier League.

Zampa was not included in the 350-player shortlist for the 2026 IPL auction. He was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the 2026 IPL auction and later opted to play in the PSL.

He has previously represented Rising Pune Supergiant, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

“Yeah, well, I wasn’t really in the limelight. I quit the IPL this year. To be honest, people with my skill set don’t usually attract money as much as other skills. Considering the amount of time it requires, I didn’t feel like continuing in the IPL was a reasonable option,” Zampa said.

“I was planning to take a break but then the PSL came about a month ago. It all happened very quickly but I’m enjoying it,” he added.
