However, it is unusual for a university to fully embrace all aspects of this culture. High Point University is a little unique.
High Point University, located in North Carolina just 20 miles from Greensboro, captured the attention of social media with a thrilling 83-82 victory over Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon. However, it’s not just the games that are exciting.
The university is known for its unique tradition, often referred to as “life skills,” which some may find unusual. For example, the university built a steakhouse where students can enjoy meals as part of the campus dining program. According to the Wall Street Journal, administrators believe that “job interviews and client transactions often occur over meals,” so they want students to experience these situations first-hand. Reservations are required and phones are not allowed during meals.
Additionally, the campus features a simulated aircraft cabin so students can practice interacting with executives as if they were on an airplane. They see it as preparation for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

It’s even better: While the average college student might take Uber, students wearing school merchandise can ride a free airport shuttle to and from campus. However, if you don’t wear university gear, the shuttle will cost you $95, a concept the Wall Street Journal article calls “brand awareness.”
