Daniel Wiffen defended his 1500m freestyle title in a thrilling final of the European Short Course Championships in Poland.
Team Ireland swimmer Wiffen, who won Olympic gold in the 800m at the Paris Games, finished second behind Zalan Sarkany for most of the event.

However, the 24-year-old performed well in the final 100 meters, beating the Hungarian by 1.12 seconds.
Wiffen took the lead for the first time with 50 meters left and won the gold medal in 14 minutes, 13.96 seconds, 1.55 seconds ahead of Sakani.
It was Wiffen’s first gold medal from Northern Ireland since undergoing appendix surgery last August.
It was his second medal at the championships, after finishing third behind former Ireland teammate Jack McMillan in Tuesday’s 200m freestyle final.
McMillan, from Northern Ireland, will represent Great Britain in the men’s 200m freestyle final at 19:27 GMT.
Wiffen’s win gave Ireland a second gold medal in Poland after John Shortt won the 200m backstroke on Wednesday.
