NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reports that the San Francisco 49ers will sign veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk to a one-year, $6 million contract. Kirk, 29, spends 2025 with the Houston Texans. The former second-round pick caught 28 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown.
Looking at Kirk’s injury history, he missed two games in the 2025 season with a hamstring strain. In 2024, Kirk missed the remainder of the season after suffering a broken collarbone in Week 8. Kirk got off to a strong start in Jacksonville in ’24. He caught 27 passes and averaged 14 yards per catch.

Unfortunately, Kirk is no stranger to blue medical tents. He missed five games in 2023 after suffering a Grade 3 tear in his groin after landing awkwardly in the first quarter of Week 13. Kirk missed the remainder of the season.
The 49ers bringing in Kirk is similar to other speedy, undersized receivers on the roster. He joins Ricky Pearsall, Jordan Watkins, Jacob Cowing and Junior Bergen in this regard.
With DeMarcus Robinson, Ja’an Jennings and Kendrick Bourne all targeted after the postseason, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 49ers add speed at the position. Improving speed is one of the Niners’ top priorities this offseason.
Kirk had eight targets of 20 yards or more last season. In the first half of 2024, Kirk had 12 targets of 20 yards or more. For reference, Jennings caught 13 passes in each of his first two seasons – we know how involved he is in the passing game.
