Reliance Jio has become one of the largest telecom operators in India, providing 4G VoLTE connectivity across the country. The operator sells competitive prepaid and postpaid plans to attract customers. It also offers various benefits including Disney+ Hotstar VIP access and free subscription to Jio apps. Additionally, Jio is also offering benefits like in-flight connectivity packs and long-term validity packs exclusively for prepaid customers.
Jio allows you to port your mobile number to its prepaid and postpaid services through both online and offline channels. You will need to bring your original address and proof of identity with you. This proof can be your driver’s license or any other legal address and identification document. Like other operators, Jio offers door-to-door delivery of the new SIM card, but you can also choose to use your phone to visit a nearby Jio store or Jio retailer to get the port done. You can also book delivery of your new SIM card using the MyJio app on your phone.
In this article, you will get a step-by-step guide on how to port your existing mobile number to Jio prepaid or postpaid services. If it is an intra-circle number portability, the MNP process can take up to 48 hours. However, if you are changing your telecommunications circle, it may take up to four days. The transplant process for customers in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Northeast India is expected to take 15 days.
How to port your mobile number to Jio online
Like other operators, Jio lets you collect your new SIM card online if you don’t want to go out to a store. Before starting the online process, it’s a good idea to have your address and proof of identity handy. It is also important to highlight that the online booking of Jio SIM cards is currently limited to postpaid connections, but you can follow the steps below to ask the visiting management to provide you with a prepaid SIM card. Visit the Jio website and enter your full name and 10-digit mobile number.

Now, click Generate one-time password button. This will send a six-digit one-time password (OTP) as an SMS to your mobile number.

You need to enter the number and verify the OTP by clicking Verify one-time password button.

The website will now take you to a screen asking you to provide your address details. It will ask you for your location, PIN, apartment/house number and landmark.

Now you will see a confirm You need to click this button to submit your SIM card delivery request.
A Jio executive will then call you to schedule delivery of your new SIM card. You need to ask them about the MNP facility during the call and generate a Unique Portability Code (UPC) from your mobile phone by sending an SMS. Enter “Port” followed by your 10-digit mobile number and text it to 1900. The reply code you receive is valid for only four days (30 days in Jammu and Kashmir). You will need to share this code, along with your address and proof of identity, with supervisors visiting your location.
How to port your mobile number to Jio using MyJio app
If you don’t want to use the Jio website and have the MyJio app installed on your phone, you can also book delivery of your new SIM card from the app.
- Go to MyJio app and click on Not a Jio user yet? options appear at the bottom of the screen. This message will appear if you have not logged in with your Jio number or have logged out.
- Now, you will see a pop-up window with the “Port to Jio” option. Click this option.
- The app will now provide a form asking you to enter your full name and 10-digit mobile number.
- After entering your name and mobile number, click Generate one-time password button.
- A form will now appear asking for your delivery location details including your location, password and house number.
- Click confirm After entering the location details, click the button.
Now, you will get a call from a Jio executive asking you for the address where to deliver your new SIM card. You need to ask them about the MNP facility and specify whether you want Jio prepaid or postpaid connection.
How to port mobile number to Jio offline
You can also port your mobile number to Jio offline if you don’t want to proceed with the online steps or use the MyJio app.
- Generate a UPC by texting “port” and your mobile number to 1900. You will receive a text message from 1901 containing the UPC code and its expiry date.
- Now, go to the nearest Jio store or Jio retailer using the UPC code along with your address and identity proof.
If you have a postpaid connection, you will need to clear any pending charges with your current operator. If transferring from a prepaid connection, you must note that your balance will not be transferred to Jio and will be forfeited after transferring the number.
