Four days after beating Palmeiras to win the Copa Libertadores for the fourth time, Flamengo sealed the Brazilian title with a 1-0 win over Ceará at Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Maracanã Stadium on Wednesday.
It is the ninth time the country’s most popular football club has won the Brazilian title and the third time in the past seven seasons.

Club-record signing Samuel Lino scored the only goal against Ceará to help Flamengo maintain an undisputed five-point lead over Palmeiras with a game remaining in the league.
Newly crowned champions beat Palmeiras 1-0 win Saturday’s Copa Libertadores final in the Peruvian capital Lima.
They now become the fifth Brazilian team in history to complete the Serie A Copa Libertadores double, having previously achieved this feat in 2019.
“In a few years (the players) will realize what they have achieved,” Flamengo coach Felipe Luis said. “They are eternal!”

Pele’s Santos won the double in 1962 and 1963, while Botafogo also won the double last year.
Neymar, meanwhile, scored a hat-trick in Santos’ 3-0 win over Juventus, boosting the Sao Paulo club’s hopes of avoiding relegation.
Santos are now just two points clear of the relegation zone in the bottom four, with a game remaining against third-placed Cruzeiro, who could push Palmeiras into second place.
The season is not over yet for Flamengo and they can still secure the treble by winning the Intercontinental Cup.
The Carioca club will face CONCACAF champions Cruz Azul of Mexico next Wednesday, before the winner of this match will face African champions Pyramids of Egypt for a place in the final against European champions Paris Saint-Germain in Doha on December 17.
