Ah yes, the Washington Commanders interviewed Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.
This shouldn’t surprise any Commander fans or members of the Commander media at all. First up, Commanders will be interviewing a variety of players in the Commonwealth this week. They will interview several people who will be drafted in the first round. However, Commanders can only draft one player in the first round.
Some Commanders fans are upset that the NFL team that gave up the most yards last year can’t draft a running back. Do they need a new defensive starter this year? A poor defense in 2025 suggests the Commanders will need to address this issue in two weeks of free agency and the early rounds of the draft. Recent mock drafts from some of the biggest names in the industry have the Commanders selecting Texas Tech LB David Bailey, Ohio State edge/LB Arvell Reese, Miami DE Rueben Bain Jr. or Ohio State LB Sonny Styles with the seventh overall pick.

“The Rich Eisen Show” host Rich Eisen asked Commanders coach Dan Quinn about drafting a running back with the seventh overall pick on Wednesday.
“How does a guy impact a team in a great way? Sometimes it’s through the running back,” Quinn said. “We’ve seen guys over the last four or five years do that.”
Who is Quinn referring to? Well, over the past decade, Ezekiel Elliott has been at No. 4 with the Jaguars (2016), Leonard Fournette has been at No. 4 with the Jaguars (2017), and Saquon Barkley has been at No. 2 with the Giants in 2018. But these things come in cycles, as there was no top-10 pick until 2023 when the Falcons selected Bijan Robinson at No. 8. The Lions followed quickly at No. 12, selecting Jahmyr Gibbs. Ashton Jeanty joins the Raiders at No. 6 overall in 2025.

But you know what? What if Quinn was just playing games? Did Quinn start talking about Love, hoping someone would trade with Washington to draft Love? The Commanders really need an extra pick or two since they have no choice in the second or fourth round this year.
Please keep this in mind.
