Tara Ashley Palmieri, 19, gained widespread attention on social media after police body camera video detailing her arrest surfaced on Mikey Pipes’ YouTube channel “Cuffed by Cops.” The video captured Palmieri being taken into custody after an alleged traffic accident in New Smyrna Beach, which led to the alleged felony charge. The incident was captured on Volusia County police body camera footage, which documented Palmieri’s arrest and her heated altercation with law enforcement authorities in the garage.
police say what happened
According to Cuffed by Cops, officers with the New Smyrna Beach Police Department are investigating a hit-and-run incident on Pioneer Trail in which Palmieri allegedly drove past an officer at a high rate of speed. Police said Palmieri was driving a white 2024 Ford Mustang and was passing in a marked no-passing zone when she accelerated toward an officer, who stepped into the road and flagged her down. He added that the officer said Palmieri failed to slow down, brake or directly follow commands. He said he had to leave the driveway to avoid being hit.
How the police tracked her
Minutes later, police spotted the Mustang parked in a nearby residential area. When they arrived at the garage where the vehicle was found, they found the hood was hot, meaning the car had been driven recently. Police made contact with Palmieri inside the garage and she admitted to encountering the officer as she continued driving. She said she thought the man was just a man dressed in black and white, not a police officer, and that he wasn’t exactly in front of her car. Police dismissed that explanation and told Palmieri that she had been given clear hand signals to stop and that the incident was captured on body camera. She was immediately taken into custody.
What has Tara Ashley Palmieri been charged with?
Palmieri was arrested and charged with fleeing and evading law enforcement, which is considered a felony in Florida. During the encounter, she repeatedly questioned the officer’s story, insisted she was driving the speed limit, and asked to meet with a supervisor. The responding officer told her lights and sirens were not needed because he was in full uniform and ordered her to stop. The officer also told Palmieri and her father over the phone that another person at the scene of the initial accident witnessed the entire incident being filmed, and footage from his body camera showed her speeding away.
Booking details and court dates
Palmieri has posted a $2,500 bond. Her next court date is December 3, 2025. She later posted bail and is awaiting trial, authorities said.
Why the Internet is so obsessed with this case
The viral attention following Palmieri’s arrest was more about the online spread of the video than the legal charges. A photo posted by an
