MILAN — After 15 years together, two years of marriage, countless early mornings and late nights, and four Olympics, Madison Chalke and Evan Bates finally have an ice dance medal of their own.
Jock and Bates earned silver medals in Wednesday night’s ice dance competition with a final total score of 224.39. France’s Laurence Fournier Beaudry/Guillaume Cizeron won the gold medal with 225.82 points, and Canada’s Piper Gilles/Paul Porrell won the bronze medal with 217.74 points.

Although Jock and Bates have been Olympic stars for more than a decade, they have only reached the top of ice dancing since the Beijing Games. They are the defending champions, three-time World Champions and Grand Prix Final Champions, as well as the defending champions and seven-time U.S. Champions. They have won gold twice as members of Team USA, most recently this past Sunday. But they didn’t get their own medal until Wednesday night.
Jock and Bates were ranked 19th out of 20 teams Wednesday night, less than a point behind Fournier Beaudry and Cizeron in the short program. Their matador-style skating to Ramin Djawadi’s cover of “Paint It, Black” excited the large crowd of American fans at Assago Ice Skating Arena.
