Wisconsin starting guard earns Big Ten Player of the Week nods

Wisconsin Badgers linebacker John Blackwell earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors for the second time in the 2025 campaign on Monday.

Blackwell, who previously earned the honor the week of Dec. 8, averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 rebounds per game in leading Wisconsin to 2-0 wins over Minnesota on Jan. 13 and Rutgers on Jan. 17. The 6-foot-4 veteran is one of two Big Ten playmakers nominated this week along with Maryland guard Diggy Coit.

Most notably, the Michigan native hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lift the Badgers past the Golden Gophers on Jan. 13 in Minneapolis, a game in which he finished with 27 points, six rebounds and five points on 8-for-14 shooting in 34 minutes.

Against the Scarlet Knights, Blackwell had 19 points, five rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes, his 13th game of the 2025 season with at least 10 points.
