Tony Dokoupil Lambasted After Sharing New ‘Evening News’ Strategy

New “CBS Nightly News” host Tony Dokupil delivered a New Year’s greeting to viewers, but not everyone agreed with his new approach to the traditional network’s reporting strategy.

Dokupil outlined a new direction for CBS News, vowing to focus on the perspectives of ordinary Americans after years of the media placing too much emphasis on “advocates… academics or elites.” The anchor, who fills the seat once held by Walter Cronkite, Norah O’Donnell and Dan Rather, was appointed under the new ownership of Paramount and the management of new editor-in-chief Barry Weiss.

“CBS News is down,” Dr. Kevin Young wrote in X’s post after the anchor posted a social media PSA video. “Americans must now rely on international news outlets rather than U.S. state media to report factual news.”

Another user mocked the anchor and asked: “Why is CBS releasing Tony Dokupil’s Fox News audition tape?”

In his direct social media video, Dokupil listed several stories that Americans feel the media has missed over the years: NAFTA, the Iraq War, Russia collusion, COVID-19 lockdowns, Hunter Biden’s laptop and “the president’s fitness to serve.”

“We consider the views of advocates rather than the views of ordinary Americans. Or we give too much weight to the analysis of academics or elites and not enough weight to yours,” he said. “I know this because at some point, I am you. I feel this way too. I feel like what I see and hear in the news does not reflect what I see and hear in my own life, and that the most pressing questions are simply not being asked.”
