Fan poll: Who will win girls wrestler of the year?

IndyStar is giving you the opportunity to highlight some of Central Indiana’s best female wrestlers in our latest fan poll! From state champions to freshman prodigies, these 13 athletes are thriving in the 2025 IHSAA girls wrestling season. Each of them has the potential to go deep in the postseason as the conference tournament begins on Friday.

Kendall Moe, Cathedral

The senior transferred to Cathedral from Hamilton Heights prior to this season and competed in the 115 class in his final year of high school wrestling. Moe is a threat at her new weight and has the championship pedigree to guide her. Moe won the state championship last season at 105 while wrestling for the Huskies. Moe finished her junior year with a 29-0 record. Moe finished second at the Brian Keck Preseason Nationals in late October with a score of 115.

Kohler Webb, Mooresville

The freshman star is 6-1 on the season, with her only loss coming to Whiteland’s Mikayla Perkins, who is ranked No. 1 at 120, according to IndianaMat. Five of Weber’s six wins have come against ranked opponents. Based on her performance this year, Weber is expected to have success in the state tournament. In mid-November, Weber won the 120 championship at the Sarah Hildebrandt Invitational.

Claire May, Roncalli

The senior made a name for himself at state earlier this year, finishing third in the 100. May decided to stay in her weight class this season. With a successful tournament last year, May is poised to make a splash at state this season as she looks to cap off her high school wrestling career with a title in the 100.

Rianna Benson, Warren Central

Benson placed fifth at the state meet last season at 105. The junior is 4-4 on the year but has the experience of a state championship to earn a spot in the playoffs, according to IndianaMat.

Caitlin Foti, Whiteland

The Whiteland sophomore is the No. 100 wrestler in the state and No. 12 nationally. Foti, who placed third at 105 at the state meet earlier this year, dropped a weight class this season. Whiteland used its young stars to finish fourth as a team at the inaugural IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Championships.

Monica Alvarado, North Central

The North Central senior currently ranks sixth in the state at 125. Alvarado jumped two weight classes this season and competed at 125. Earlier this year, Alvarado placed fourth in the state at 110.

Joan Wagner-Gilbert, New Palestine

Wagner-Gilbert finished first at 135 at the Kyle Osborne Invitational at McCutcheon on Saturday. The junior shot 130 last season and finished fourth at the state meet earlier this year. Wagner-Gilbert hopes to have another successful postseason run, starting with the divisional round on Jan. 2.

Michaela Perkins, Whiteland

The Whiteland sophomore performed well at the state tournament last season as a freshman, finishing fifth at 105. Perkins took first place at 120 at the 2025 Air Force Special Operations 16U and Junior Men’s and Women’s Folkstyle Nationals in March. Perkins is hoping for a similar result in his second state tournament in January.

Jazlyn Diaz-Avalos, Franklin

After back-to-back state finals appearances at 145, Diaz-Avalos decided to compete at 140 this season. The senior wrestler is the No. 2-ranked new weight class wrestler in the state of Indiana.

Zoe Gray, Triton Center

Gray qualified for the state championship last season at 190 but failed to advance to the first round. However, Gray, now a senior, has a wealth of experience heading into January. The junior currently ranks third in the state with a 190.

Racheal Adolphe, North Central

Adolph won the state championship last season with a score of 235. The North Central junior currently ranks third in the state this season at 135, but with the state tournament approaching, Adolph remains the favorite to defend his title.

Clara Gramlin, Lebanon

Gramling’s campaign as a teenager was successful. The senior finished fifth at 170 last season. Gramling jumped 20 pounds her senior year and wrestled at 190 pounds.

Eleanor Robertson, Franklin

At age 170, Robertson became the highest-ranked wrestler in the state of Indiana. The sophomore ranked fourth in the state in his weight class last season.
