A new report from El Larguero sheds light on the increasingly delicate situation surrounding FC Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with sources close to the club captain making his stance clear ahead of the January transfer window.
Sources close to the Germany goalkeeper reportedly insist he will only consider leaving Barcelona in January if he receives an offer from a club that truly matches his level and stature in European football.

Ter Stegen found himself in an uncomfortable sporting situation. With Joan Garcia currently ahead of him in the pecking order, the long-time first-choice goalkeeper is effectively second-choice goalkeeper.
That alone would be enough to unsettle most players, but the situation at Barcelona complicates the situation, especially as financial pressures influence sporting decisions.
Girona is interested, but…
Unsurprisingly, this situation has not gone unnoticed in La Liga. As previously reported, Girona have emerged as one of the clubs monitoring Ter Stegen’s availability, with the idea being to return him to a clear first-choice position.

This is because Ter Stegen’s current wages are considered too high for Girona’s wage structure, and Barcelona are not prepared to continue paying his full wages to facilitate a transfer.
This financial mismatch effectively reduces the likelihood of a January switch, at least for now.
Sources close to the goalkeeper stress that he is in no rush to leave and is handling the situation patiently.
That could change come January, as Ter Stegen looks to regain his place in the Germany squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
As previously reported, he has received a strong warning from the national team director, who has firmly stated that the goalkeeper must play if he wants to make the World Championship squad.
