On Friday, December 12, South Trail Fire Rescue crews responded to three separate crashes at the same intersection in Fort Myers. All three crashes occurred near the intersection of Crystal Drive and Metro Parkway.

The first accident was a T-bond collision between an Ambitrans ambulance and a four-door Tesla. The Tesla driver was declared “trauma alert” and transported to a medical facility, according to South Trail Fire Rescue officials. There were two paramedics and a patient in the ambulance. All three were taken to hospital.

In the second incident, a semi-truck sideswiped a rescue vehicle. South Trail Fire Rescue said the unit was unoccupied at the time of the incident and only minor damage was reported. No injuries were reported.

The third and final accident of the day involved a small work vehicle and a small SUV. Officials said the accident was minor and no one was injured.

Due to the initial crash, southbound lanes of the Crystal Avenue Metro Parkway were closed while rescue crews worked the scene.

“As a reminder, Florida’s Yield of the Road law requires drivers to cross the lane when approaching an emergency vehicle working on the roadway and, if unable to cross the lane, slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit. This helps keep first responders safe while on the job,” South Trail Fire Rescue officials wrote in a Dec. 12 Facebook post.
