Daniel Peretz was surprised not to be rated first choice for newly promoted Hamburg when he joined on loan earlier this year. Instead, he has been on the bench for every league game and has featured in just three DFB-Pokal matches, including last week’s thriller against Holstein Kiel. He started the season with back-to-back wins before facing Kiel. He kept a clean sheet for 118 minutes but was forced to take a penalty when he equalized late on. Peretz saved a penalty kick, but in the end the team lost 2-4.

Peretz was asked after the game if he would terminate his loan when the January transfer window opens. He told Sports Illustrated (reported by @iMiaSanMia), “I expected to be No. 1. But that’s not the case so far. Of course, I’m not happy with it. I make no secret of it. I don’t think any football player is happy when he’s not playing. My goal is still to play every game. I came to HSV to play as many games as I can. I’m taking the situation now, one game at a time, training hard and trying to give my best every game. Day – make it as difficult as possible for the coaching staff.”

Bayern are unlikely to recall Peretz to Munich without a solid plan to loan him out for the remainder of the season. The question remains: If no other Bundesliga team is willing to give Peretz playing time, would he be better off staying in Hamburg and fighting for a spot, or going to a lower league where he could get consistent playing time?
