Germany expects to register about 693,000 new battery electric vehicles (BEV) next year, the German Automobile Industry Association (VDA) said on Monday.
This would be an increase of approximately 30% compared to the projected figure for 2025.
Including other alternative powertrains such as plug-in hybrids, the VDA expects nearly 1 million new registrations of vehicles with electrically assisted powertrains.
Registrations of new plug-in hybrids are expected to fall slightly by about 5% to 286,000 units.
Forecasts for BEVs are slightly lower than those from the International Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, which expects about 740,000 new BEVs next year – assuming planned government incentives for private EV buyers take effect. The VDA said the same conditions apply to its own estimates.
The VDA expects only a modest recovery for the overall market. Total new registrations of passenger cars across all powertrain types next year are expected to be 2.9 million units, an increase of approximately 2% from 2025. That’s still well below the pre-pandemic record in 2019, when new registrations were around 3.6 million.
