This isn’t the first time LSU has headed to the Texas Bowl with an interim head coach. LSU faces Kansas State in 2021, with offensive line coach Brad Davis serving as interim coach after Ed Orgeron left the program.
Houston enters with a 9-3 record and a chance to win by double digits. For head coach Willie Fritz, this will be a major accomplishment in his second year leading the program. Houston OC Slade Nagle serves as LSU tight ends coach in 2024.
There’s not much risk for LSU, but it will give LSU’s young men a chance to gain more experience heading into 2025.
