In addition to its many private labels and exclusive brands, Lowe’s has done a lot to make its products more accessible, especially for budget-conscious customers. Recently, Lowe’s launched a rent-to-own program to make expensive tools more accessible to people who may need them urgently and use them long-term but can’t afford to pay up front. For the casual DIY enthusiast or homeowner who just needs tools for one project (or just doesn’t have the storage space), Lowe’s also offers a tool rental program for its customers. In addition to standard power tools, they also offer options for utility trailers, ladders, and even pickup trucks. Not to mention, the retailer offers tons of free perks, from helpful services like plumbing and wood cutting to guilt-free recycling and disposal.
However, if you plan to slowly build your dream studio, Lowe’s can make it happen, even if you start at just $10. To give you an idea of your options, we’ve put together a recommended list of tools worth buying. To do this, we analyzed existing reviews on the official Lowe’s website. We looked at overall ratings as well as pros and cons shared by highly satisfied and extremely dissatisfied customers. To know the complete method, read the end of the article. Post level on fence – Johnson/Harbour Freight
At just under $7, the Johnson Post Level can be your companion for a variety of plumbing and leveling jobs. Designed to attach to posts, poles, and stringers with rubber straps, this post level weighs just under 0.3 pounds and measures 5.5 inches in length and width. The cross-check level is made of plastic, has three yellow acrylic barrel vials, and Lowe’s lists an accuracy of 0.001 per inch. Plus, it comes with a one-year warranty for added peace of mind.
At Lowes, the Johnson Post Level Plastic 5.5-Inch 3-Bottle Cross-Check Level has received an average rating of 4.8 stars from over 290 customers. Among its owners, 93% rated it at least 4 stars, with the most common positive feedback being that it works well and is an absolute time saver, especially since it works in different directions. Some say one of its unique features, which makes it stand out from the crowd, is its rubber strap, which allows for hands-free use.
Among satisfied customers, they mention that it’s perfect for things like installing and replacing posts and fences, mailboxes, flagpoles, and even deck installations. Perhaps, even more impressively, only 1% of reviewers gave it one star. As of February 2026, only one person complained about its lack of accuracy, while another user said they believed its effectiveness was affected by static electricity.
2. Craftsman 6-inch screwdriver bit set 6-piece set
Craftsman Bits on White Background – Craftsman/Lowe’s
While you can buy Craftsman tools online elsewhere, many of their products work pretty well at Lowe’s, especially screwdriver bits. For example, Craftsman’s 60-piece screwdriver bit set, which sells for less than $35, has a huge following, with more than 230 Lowe’s customers giving it an average of 4.7 stars. While its other screwdriver bit sets don’t have as many reviews, all have average positive reviews of 4 stars or higher, including many under $10.
The Craftsman 6-Inch Screwdriver Bit Set (Set of 6), which retails for $6.48, is another well-rated and popular driver bit set made from zinc-coated high-carbon steel. It has a 1/4-inch hex shank and is compatible with impact tools and drilling tools. Right out of the box, it includes three Philips #2 bits, as well as slotted #8, Torx T25, and Square #2. On average, more than 160 customers have given it a 4.7-star rating, with 95% of users giving it at least a 4-star rating. Overall, it’s been well received for its coverage, with dozens of people saying it’s great for reaching hard-to-reach or tight areas. Not to mention, only 2% of users hate it and give it only one star. Although some satisfied customers also think it would be better if it was magnetic. There was also some feedback about slippage, which they said could be dealt with with more pressure.
3. Kobalt 4.5-Inch Stainless Steel Non-Slip Soft Grip Scissors
Man holding Kobalt scissors – Kobalt / Lowe’s
Kobalt, one of Lowe’s private brands, is popular for producing everything from power tools to storage solutions and compressors. Given this, it’s no surprise that it has plenty of budget-friendly options (including some scissors) priced under $10. For $9.98, you can get a pair of Kobalt’s stainless steel non-slip soft-grip scissors, designed for home use. The set includes two pairs of scissors (5.5-inch and 8.5-inch), the larger of which has a 4.5-inch blade.
At first glance, spending nearly $10 for a pair of scissors might seem a bit steep, but the reviews for this pair suggest otherwise. Not only did more than 510 Lowe’s customers give the set an average of 4.8 stars, but less than 1% gave it a 1-star rating. However, those with larger hands may be interested to know that one dissatisfied reviewer stated that the smaller of the two models was less comfortable to use. Likewise, someone else shared that 5.5-inch scissors are useless. Still, 96% of customers rated it at least 4 stars.
Or, if you’re willing to add a few dollars to your budget, Kobalt also offers another highly rated pair of heavy-duty scissors for $15.98. Although it’s not as popular, more than 190 Lowe’s customers gave it similar reviews, averaging 4.8 stars. Of course, it’s designed to handle more demanding tasks beyond everyday home use.
4. Warner Pro Grip 6-in-1 2.25-Inch Carbon Steel Paint Multi-Tool

Even if you’re on a budget, the $6.38 Warner Pro Grip 6-in-1 2.25-inch Carbon Steel Paint Multi-Tool is well worth a trip to Lowe’s. This multi-tool’s 0.08-inch-thick, full-shank carbon steel blade is designed for multiple functions and can handle a variety of tasks, from scraping and applying to opening cans, cleaning paint rollers, and more. The 4.7-inch polypropylene handle is molded into the blade and is designed to increase comfort while maintaining solvent resistance. Of course, if you want to support local products, Lowe’s points out that it’s made in the USA.
Most people who bought the Warner Paint Multi-Tool seem to like it. For example, not only did more than 250 people give it an average of 4.8 stars, but 95% of customers also recommended it. Additionally, its reviews are mostly positive: 94% gave it 4 or 5 stars, while only 1% considered it 1-star material. Overall, it is thought to perform well in terms of durability. Some of the most satisfied customers say this is perfect for their needs as new homeowners and as people who need their entire home textured and painted. Not to mention, one fun off-label use someone shared is using it to open the top of your dryer. But while many people like its comfortable handle, some less-than-satisfied customers say it would be better if the handle were larger.
5. Kobalt Compact Lockback 3/4-Inch 1-Blade Folding Utility Knife

Few tools are as versatile as the humble utility knife, as they can be used for everything from opening Amazon delivery boxes to making crafts to even professional repairs. If you’re looking for an affordable Lowe’s knife that can fit in your pocket, you can buy the Kobalt Compact Lockback 3/4-inch 1-Blade Folding Utility Knife for $8.48. Its blade is made of high-carbon stainless steel, measures 1.06 inches x 3/4 inches, and features a quick-change mechanism.
As of February 2026, this utility knife has an average rating of 4.6 stars from more than 380 customers, with 91% rating it 4 stars or higher. With an 89% recommendation rate, most people find it reliable, comfortable, and good value for money. That said, 5% of people gave it just one star, and they had some pretty legitimate concerns, particularly about the release mechanics. Several people have mentioned that it is prone to accidental release while cutting, resulting in injuries.
Or, if you want something similar but retractable, there’s also the Kobalt 3/4-inch 3-Blade Retractable Utility Knife with Utility Blade Storage for $7.28. But be warned: While it also retails for under $10 and has more than 470 customer reviews, it has a slightly lower rating of 4.4 stars and a slightly higher customer dissatisfaction rate (7%).
How we list these tools
Johnson Post Horizontal Fence – Johnson/Lowe’s
While you can find tons of tools under $10 at Lowe’s, we distinguish which options are worth buying in three key ways: average overall rating, the percentage of reviewers who rated them 4 stars or higher, and the percentage of reviewers who rated them with a single star. To collect this information, we referenced verified reviews on Lowe’s official website and only included tools with at least 150 reviews.
For their overall rating, we included tools with an average rating of at least 4 stars, indicating general reviewer satisfaction. To support this, we only included models that more than 90% of reviewers gave 4 or 5 stars. To help avoid situations where products are recurring deal breakers or consistently fail to meet customer expectations, we also keep track of products that are rated one star by only 5% of people (or less).
In some cases, we’ve also mentioned similar products in the brand’s portfolio priced under $10, as well as slightly pricier products that may have unique features worth considering. However, none of this affects their spot on the roster.
